Haven't heard that term yet? Well, you've just learned a new word., as that's what the insiders, the folks at Schwan's, call their goodies and memorabilia.
You've probably seen the Schwan's delivery truck in your neighborhood. They deliver frozen foods to the 48 contiguous states. But did you know that they are actually "the largest branded frozen-food company in the United States with market-leading brands like Red Baron, Tony’s, Freschetta, Edwards, Mrs. Smith’s and its own signature brand -- Schwan’s".
When a company is that big, it's sure to have lots of memorabilia from the past years, but most of it wasn't commercially sold. According to the company newsletters, "most of the items have been created for the enjoyment of employees of the company". Many of the items found include various awards, pieces of dinnerware sets, giveaways, annual tins, and trucks. Lots of trucks! But that's all changing with an Internet presence and with Ken Schrader driving a Schwan's sponsored race car, the company's collectibles are going in a new direction -- the ever popular NASCAR. Schwan's NASCAR collectibles include diecast cars, racing apparel, hats, with pins, patches and hats rounding out the selection.
Happily, for those of us that love the nostalgic look in our collecting it's not all NASCAR. There's a new cookie jar on the shelf, a limited edition replica of the 1950 Schwan's delivery truck. The jar was new in 2005 and sold on Schwan's web site for $49.95.
