Taft Sherman Pin Sells for $9,200.
Press Release

The 2004 Presidential election is in the news…and Presidential memorabilia is hotter than ever!

An example of the popularity of political buttons is a recently completed auction of a rare 1908 Taft/Sherman Presidential Pin. An eBay Red Star* seller from St. Paul, MN knew that the button was a very special and rare piece, in exceptionally good condition. The auction began on October 13, 2003 with an initial bid of $250.00. Proving to be a popular item, 37 bids were placed during the 10-day auction. The auction closed on October 23rd with the winning bid of $9,200.00.

Excellent photography of the item contributed to the success of this auction.

The seller provided six photos, showcasing both the front and back of the pin. Visible on the back of the pin is clear documentation of the pin's history. Along with the company logo, the back paper is inscribed with:

Buttons made by
The Whitehead & Hoag Co.
Newark N.J. U.S.A. Pat. April 14, 1896,
July 21, 1896.

With rare items such as this pin, photography** plays a key role in determining the outcome of the auction. Clear and detailed photography helps the seller to showcase his item, communicating an item's authenticity and history to potential buyers.

The seller confirms that the 1908 Taft/Sherman Presidential Pin has safely arrived to its buyer in Indiana.
