Flea markets can be fun if you are prepared. Have a flea market "kit" read to go at all times, just add cash!
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required:
Here's How:
- Find a comfortable carryall in your particular style (tote or backpack).
- Pack a small wallet with your drivers license, blank checks (in case you find an expensive treasure)and lots of little bills -- your flea market cash-stash.
- Consider adding a flashlight, tape measure and a small memo pad and pencil for taking phone numbers or making notes.
- A string expandable shopping bag weighs almost nothing, takes almost no space, but is worth a mint if you need more hands to carry stuff.
- If you are into small items, a magnifying glass or jewelers loup to identify marks will save your eyes -- meanwhile everyone will think you know what you are doing!
- Still adding to the backpack, but handy to have is a small pocketsize price or mark guide. Even though the back pack is getting full, it's nice to have it when you need it. If your car is nearby, this can always be left there and you can go back if needed.
- If you are interested in Brass -- a small magnet.
- Take personal business cards to leave with dealers who deal with the type of stuff you are interested in. It's much easier than writing your name and number on scraps of paper.
Tips:
- Don't make bag too heavy or cumbersome -- edit above to only carry what you will use. Or leave some of the items in the car.
- Leave your regular wallet at home, just transfer drivers license and one credit card to cash stash.
