It was only a year ago that Mike Neal of Fort Mill, SC, began collecting political ephemera, but in the intervening time he has amassed well over 200 items, some of which he is beginning to resell on eBay.

Recently retired from General Motors, Mike has focused his collection on current political items. “Although my first pinbacks were from the Nixon and Wallace campaign, most of my pieces are current. I also have ten to fifteen posters, an occasional odd piece such as a Jimmy Carter litter bag, and some comparatively rare pinbacks from the Robert Kennedy campaign,” says Mike. “I’ve always been interested in politics in general, but although I’m a democrat and a Bill Clinton fan, I find radical politics intriguing. I’m not an extremist myself, but I enjoy finding mementos from the Black Panthers, Eldridge Cleaver, Angela Davis, Lenora Falani, and even Communist politicians because these were significant figures in our history.”

“I think eBay is super,” he says. “I’m sold on it 100%. Of course, their selection is the biggest anywhere because it spans the whole world. You get what you want there, and you can find great values as well. My eBay experiences have been terrific.” “What am I looking for?” he muses. “I don’t feel my collection has any gaps, but I can tell you that the Al Sharpton buttons are trading at a very brisk pace. I can’t seem to keep him in stock.”
